Pencil Sketches

Anywhere, anytime. Pick up a pencil and sketch.

Using a 2B pencil, and a kneadable eraser, one can escape into a state of harmony from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Without the distraction of colour, a likeness and sense of character can be achieved with simple strokes.

Here, I captured the inquisitive nature and keen observational skills of a San elder. In harmony with nature, exposed to the elements, a hardiness and strength is expressed.

Pastel Pencil Sketches

Keeping it simple, adding some colour.

Here, a youthful spirit lingers and a lightheartedness laced with humour is expressed.

A quick and loose sketch can capture the essence of an individual.

Watercolour Sketches

Simplicity and under-statement. Watercolour washes add life and energy to pen drawings.

In my “Going Somewhere” series of sketches, rural scool children stroll towards their school. A sense of openness, a natural tranquility. Informal communities clustered in the hills. The school a focal point and a source of hope for brighter conomic prospects.
